The Purpose of Protest

Why It Matters: The Purpose of Protest explores the historical and contemporary role of protest in our communities. How do we define protest? What are our rights and responsibilities in America regarding protest, justice, and speech? Panelists include ACLU Indigenous Justice Organizer Angeline Cheek, Billings Police Chief Rich St. John, and University of Montana Professor Kyle Volk in a conversation moderated by award-winning journalist Amy Martin, founder and executive producer of the podcast Threshold.

This program was funded by the “Why It Matters: Civic and Electoral Participation” initiative, administered by the Federation of State Humanities Councils and funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
