New Jersey Council for the Humanities
In advance of the Smithsonian Museum on Main Street exhibit “Voices and Votes” –which the council will tour through the state in 2022 — the council partnered with eight community colleges to host public programs that explored the themes of the exhibit. These programs provided opportunities for deep discussion – including plenty of disagreement. Programs catered to immigrants, new citizens, veterans, and other populations who remain marginalized in our democratic political systems, community colleges have proven to be fruitful partners for grappling with these foundational questions about American democracy.
